What is Rest-State Inversion Theory?

Jack C. Lundstedt, Jr., October 27, 2026. 2 minute read.

Rest-State Inversion, or RSI, is a mechanical framework for the whole of physics. It proposes that the universe is not an empty vacuum. It is a single incompressible universal continuum, which behaves much like a superfluid: the Eternal Consonance, held under a frictionless baseline tension of about 0.73 newtons.

This overview follows the paper's executive summary. Each idea has its own short explanation.

One medium

The Eternal Consonance has no constituent parts. It is not made of particles. Particles are made of it.

RSI derives its tension, about 0.73 N, directly from the mass of the electron. Together with the medium's linear density of 8.12 × 10⁻¹⁸ kg/m, that tension sets the speed of light. In RSI the speed of light is not an arbitrary constant. It is the fastest a disturbance can travel through the medium.

Matter as a knot

Matter is a topological knot: a local inversion of the field's rest state, held in place by internal resonance. A wave that loops back on itself and locks with a 720-degree double twist becomes a particle.

From this starting point RSI derives the proton-to-electron mass ratio as 6π⁵ ≈ 1836.118. It reads the fine structure constant, about 1/137.036, as the escapement ratio that governs how matter knots exchange energy with the field.

One tension, four forces

RSI treats the four fundamental forces as the same tension met at four scales.

  • The strong force is compression of the medium at the proton surface, 8.23 × 10²⁸ Pa.
  • Electromagnetism is the 137-cycle escapement of energy between matter and the field.
  • The weak force is structural fatigue in dissonant knots.
  • Gravity is a gradient in the medium's refractive index. It reproduces the 1.75 arcsecond bending of starlight without curved spacetime.

Time

The medium beats at about 1.85 × 10⁴³ cycles per second. In RSI, time is the mechanical cycling of that vibration, and its direction is the irreversibility of the field's dissipation.

The toroidal universe

RSI replaces the Big Bang with a steady-state toroidal cycle. The medium exhales from a Still Core, rolls over an outer rim, and inhales back toward its center.

  • Flat galactic rotation curves are read as quantized superfluid vorticity, so no dark matter is needed.
  • Cosmic acceleration is read as the pressure of the toroidal Exhale current, so no dark energy is needed.
  • The Cosmic Microwave Background is the baseline thermal potential of the medium in equilibrium, not the afterglow of an explosion.

The paper presents the Tolman surface brightness test, the Lopez rings, and the bulk flows toward the Great Attractor as observational support for this picture.

Tests

RSI points to two gravitational wave events as validation of the medium. It also proposes new experiments, most notably the Muon Shadow Test, designed to show that time dilation depends on the density of the field as well as on velocity.
