Short explanations, Chapter IV

The free knot and the acoustic undertow

RSI explains why matter forms atoms: a proton's undertow draws in a free electron, and their opposite wakes cancel each other's turbulence.

RSI holds that a lone proton or electron can survive on its own, but it is acoustically dissonant. A free proton churns a right-handed wake, and that wake stresses the 0.73 N baseline tension of the Eternal Consonance. In the theory's terms, the universe mandates atomic formation to silence this turbulence.

The free proton acts as a pressure sink. It radiates acoustic standing waves far into the surrounding fluid. A free electron therefore does not wander at random. It is caught in a hydrodynamic undertow and swept along the converging streamlines of the medium into the proton's acoustic valley.

There the electron's left-handed wake meets the proton's right-handed wake. The two opposing chiral (handed) wakes collide and cancel, and the turbulence falls silent. RSI concludes that the universe is made of bonded atoms because an atom is the path of least acoustic resistance.
