Short explanations, Chapter VIII

The mirror sky and directional relativity

RSI holds that light can wrap around the toroidal flow, and asks whether clocks could tick differently depending on their direction to it.

Building on its account of refraction, RSI holds that straight-line travel of light is an observer-centered illusion. Because the Eternal Consonance has a toroidal (doughnut-shaped) geometry, light follows the density gradients and streamlines of the universal flow.

This can create what the paper calls a Mirror Sky. Strong lensing could bend light from the Inhale current through 180 degrees, so that a source physically behind the observer appears in front.

The model also raises the question of Directional Relativity: whether a craft moving upstream against the 1.5° toroidal current feels a different amount of field-drag than one moving downstream. Experiments comparing clocks and light in different orientations have found no such difference to extraordinary precision, so any effect tied to the universal Axis of Evil must be extremely small. RSI treats it as an open question, not a prediction.
