Short explanations, Chapter VII

The co-moving frame and the Aether wind

RSI explains the Michelson-Morley null result as Lorentz did, through rulers and clocks built of the medium, and reads the CMB dipole as our motion through it.

The Michelson-Morley experiment famously found no sign of an Aether wind. RSI's answer is the one George FitzGerald and Hendrik Lorentz developed before Einstein, which Henri Poincaré completed. Every instrument is built of knots in the medium. A ruler moving through the medium shortens slightly along its motion, and a clock moving through it ticks slightly slower, by exactly the amounts that hide the motion. Such a medium is now known to reproduce every prediction of special relativity. The null result does not show the medium is absent. It shows the instruments are made of it.

This is not because the Earth drags the nearby medium along. Gravity Probe B found that the spinning Earth stirs the medium only very slightly, about one ten-billionth of its own rate of spin, and stellar aberration shows that light is not carried along with the Earth's orbit either.

On the cosmic scale, the flow reveals itself. The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) is slightly hotter on one side of the sky and cooler on the other. This is the CMB dipole. Standard physics reads it as our galaxy moving at 370 km/s against a uniform background. RSI reads it as our velocity within the Eternal Consonance's toroidal current.

The background itself, a near-uniform 2.725 Kelvin in every direction, is not the afterglow of an explosion in this view. It is the baseline thermal potential of a universal continuum at equilibrium, the same everywhere because it is the same substance everywhere.
